Study Abroad tuition: too much to mention. Plane tickets to Heathrow: too much to mention. Walking around one of the greatest cities in the world, discovering the best of what it has to offer, AND receiving class credit: priceless. Soooo, the second part of receiving credit is blogging about the walks.
1. Regent’s Park – Saturday, April 30
Walkers: Emily (sis), Andrea, Bri, Lauren, Haley
After a lovely jaunt along the Regent’s Canal…
We set off from the top of Primrose Hill in Regent’s Park. Quite the climb but worth it for this view…
Favorite parts of the walk included the ENORMOUS Regent’s Park…
Triton Fountain in Queen Mary’s Gardens…
and the ‘Dog’ drinking fountain.
Side note about the British and their dogs: this doggy water fountain is a very good representation of the British to canine relationship. There were no people water fountains in sight. The hundreds of British dogs that one sees at the London parks seem to be as private as their owners. The first and only exception to this observation is ‘Henri’, the friend we made on top of Primrose Hill…
2. The City (East) – Monday, May 2
Walkers: Lindsey, Kaylee, Molly, Laura, Kristen, Taylor, Nick
Not my favorite walk simply because it was mostly enclosed with high rising buildings making it difficult to navigate. However, it gave me my first glimpses of The Tower of London, remnants of the Roman Wall…
3. Fleet Street and St. Paul ’s – Tuesday, May 3
Walkers: Emily (sis), Haley, Jessica, Anna, Britton, Lauren
Before our “supertour” at St. Paul ’s Cathedral that afternoon, we began a jaunt down Paternoster Row. Favorite places along the way included the magnificent St. Paul ’s Cathedral…
And cozy little Dr. Johnson’s House…
4. Lambeth and Southbank – Friday, May 6
Walkers: Lindsey and Kristen
A small group and beautiful weather made for a wonderful walk. Fav places were the Albert Embankment along the Thames …
and the Roman Bath. Best part was finding it in a sketchy alley.
That concludes this very first walks post. Oh don't worry, there will be more to come. The royal wedding update is still to come... eventually.
